Yesterday was the day Aaron was finally ready to start his new treatments (vaccinations complete, other options trialed).
It was an early start on the train just after 8am with all the commuters, but after the hurry there were many delays! 1st up were the usual height and weight checks, this also means they can calculate a precise dosage. Then lots of waiting to get the 'magic cream' to numb the canula site, this takes an hour to work but again we were delayed longer, finally getting the canula around 1pm. After this was in they took bloods out to test and put in the pre meds of hydrocortizone and antihistamines to try to stop any allergic reactions to the medication. This made him very drowsy so he soon fell asleep before the infusion even started.
A lot of problems preparing the medicine meant the infusion started late, when it did we were not really prepared for how they stood over him doing observations, and how surprised they were he didn't react. He was watched for breathing difficulties, rashes, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen sats, but all was fine and Aaron slept through the 1st 1/2hr or so! It took 2.5hrs all in and then we stayed a while longer to be sure he was ok, he may still have side effects but the time for a anaphylactic shock is over but the next infusions carry the same risk.
We finally got home at 8.30 and collapsed, except Aaron who seemed full of beans!

So we are back in 2 weeks to repeat the whole thing, hopefully with less delays
