after the St Helier Dr's opinion that he may be suffering from small intestine bacterial overgrowth, they tried to give him a hydrogen breath test which involved a fast and getting to beyond sutton by 8am. unfortunately although they thought he did really well they did not continue the test as he was too young in their opinion. such a shame after setting it all up.
The following day he had an appointment up at GOS with gastro dr reg, he thought the SIBO theory was an interesting one, and did a urine test to see if they could detect it that way. the dr also did some more stool tests, and started him on a new medicene to take 1/2-1 hr before meals, and some immodium to try after that.
the following week St Helier then called again to say they had a new machine on trial to detect SIBO and could we come again the next day! this time he managed the test which showed a positive result for SIBO, however as lactulose (a laxative) is used he felt very unwell that night, and a few after.
Amongst all this he is still getting a lot of diarrhea which had settled down some after the salmonella anti-biotics, but is back worse than ever! this leaves him quite tired, although he is good at pushing himself so he can be fine for playschool but naps or watches tv after. he has started getting night terrors (not quite a nightmare as not asleep or awake more like sleep walking) he wakes sobbing and needs comfort from me before returning to sleep. he does not remember in the morning which is good but we cannot follow advice completely as leaving him to it is not an option incase it is him feeling unwell (diarrhea, aches etc). he is still getting chills after eating but not as many unexplained fevers, he is icey to touch on the mouth nose area and almost black lipped, this could be from blood being redirected for digestion. He is also possibly in need of a liver profile blood test, as he is on many medicenes and gets very red palms of his hands which can be a symptom. and of course regular achey tummy times and some real pain.
The regime of all the medicenes gets him fed up but he does very well, better than me, i find it a real problem remembering them all and have to set an alarm! also he is probably due to start a long term course of antibiotics as well to rid him of the SIBO, but from what i understand it may well come back, i'll have to ask the dr the week after next when i see her.SO;
we are awaiting most of these test results back and/or a plan of action. the next few months are busy with;
local gastro appointments, GOS appointments for gastro and urology, and paediatrician.
Ethan and Aaron both seem well, Ethan's ears were fine at his ENT appointment, Aaron had a skin infection on his face which took a while to combat, and chicken pox is doing the rounds at playschool......
sorry this is just a list of medical stuff this time, its been too long to include the regular fun stuff as well!
