Thankfully we all slept well and had a good night. Josh has been off his food and milk a little today. Not a problem as such but it sometimes means he is heading for a bad patch. He has been quite moany again today.
Arrival at GOS today was eventful as we were greeted with blue flashing lights and firemen everywhere. Apparently there were concerns a fire may have broken out on level 5 (the same floor where Rabbit Ward is and we were due to be admitted). Good news was the alarms were off after 15 minutes and we had our ultrasound scan.
Scans showed the mass is now more on the left than right (swapped sides since last scan). There were enlarged lymphatic nodes. The solid component of the mass was the same as observed in September'08. One of the things the LM can do is ove about and twist and this it is believed causes blockages in the bowel.
We were admitted about 12pm. Today has been weird in that Josh is probably one of the most healthy babies currently on ward, yet after initially being installed in one room they have moved us to room no1 in readiness for post-operative care. We have met one of surgeons for tomorrow and the details for tomorrow are as follows:
Nil by mouth for Josh from 6am
Surgery scheduled for pm session
Op to last 2-4hrs and he is the only op scheduled so they will take as long as they need.
General anestetic required
They will open him up across his tummy from one side to other just above the belly button. They will deliver the bowel and then begin the task of removing the mass. (This is what they plan to do but there may tweaks to the plan as they operate)
Risks: bleeding, infection, leaking , collection of fluid in abdomen, adhesions.
There will be lots of tubes for the op including tubes to drain his bladder and stomach, meds and fluids.
